Are Fire Agate and Fire Opal The Same Stones?

QUESTION: Are fire agate and fire opal the same stones?

MY ANSWER: They are different types of stones entirely. Fire opal is a type of opal related to the common opal. Fire agate is a type of agate.  Thou they are different stones, they have the description name “fire” which refers to rainbow type flashes of light common to that particular variety of stone. All piece of fire opal or fire agate may not show fire to the eye, but will come from a larger stone or bed that is the same stone which does show fire. The best of them do show fire.
